From an Existing Product to Reliable Mass Production

Developed as a Production Product

HABMUT already existed when the project came to Kids&Stuff.

The challenge was not to redesign the idea. The challenge was to achieve the level of quality, finishing and production consistency required for the product.

The client had experienced a difference between the quality of an earlier sample and subsequent production. Kids&Stuff therefore reviewed the product as a complete production item, rather than treating it as another prototype.

The 28 cm HABMUT required several details to work together precisely:

The characteristic star shape and facial expression had to remain consistent
The rear storage compartment needed to be fully integrated into the plush construction
We used a custom-made YKK zipper adapted to the required pocket dimensions
The complete pocket was separately lined for a clean and durable internal finish
Filling and internal construction had to be controlled so the pocket remained functional
The product still needed to remain soft enough to cuddle and use as a cushion
HABMUT ToGo had to retain the same character identity at a much smaller scale

The approved product therefore became the reference for controlled mass production, not simply an attractive standalone sample.

From an Existing Plush Concept to a Production-Ready Product

HABMUT®, More Than a Plush Star

HABMUT® is built around the idea of making moments of courage visible. Children write or draw their personal MUTmomente, moments in which they dared to do something that required courage, and place them inside the star. Over time, HABMUT becomes a physical collection of these personal moments.

The large HABMUT stays at home as the MUTSAMMLER, while HABMUT ToGo brings the character into everyday situations on a backpack or keychain. This means the plush itself is an essential part of the concept. It needs to work as a recognisable character, a soft companion, a cushion and a functional storage product at the same time.

DEVELOPMENT

A Product That Evolved Around How It Is Used HABMUT's own development history shows why functional plush products require more than visual design. During earlier development, the storage pocket moved from the front to the back of the character so that the large HABMUT could also function comfortably as a cushion. The facial features were subsequently refined. HABMUT ToGo went through the same process. The first version proved too large and impractical for children, leading to a significantly smaller final version. The result is a product family in which design, function and real-world use are developed together, rather than treated as separate decisions.

THE RESULT

The final HABMUT combines emotional brand value with carefully controlled product engineering. The large MUTSAMMLER measures approximately 28 × 28 × 10 cm and contains the functional rear storage pocket for the MUTzettel. The approximately 8 cm HABMUT ToGo translates the same character into a compact plush format for use outside the home. Both products form part of the current HABMUT range. For Kids&Stuff, the project demonstrates an important part of our production approach: We do not stop at making an approved sample. We develop and manage products so that the approved quality can be translated into controlled, repeatable mass production. From technical review and sampling to production follow-up, safety requirements, packing, import and delivery, the objective is always the same: a product that is brand-correct, production-ready and commercially usable.
